Annual Gold Star Clay Shoot Raises $102,000 for Veteran and First Responder Suicide Prevention
On June 6, 2025, Mortenson’s Utah team, alongside valued market partners and dedicated community members, came together at Wasatch Wing & Clay in Eagle Mountain for the third annual Gold Star Clay Shoot. This meaningful and impactful event brought together 180 shooters, 38 volunteers, and 32 generous sponsors in support of American Military Family (AMF), a nonprofit organization committed to preventing suicide among veterans and first responders.
American Military Family’s mission is both urgent and essential. Every 65 minutes, a veteran dies by suicide—a sobering and constant reminder of the complex and often invisible challenges our nation’s heroes face long after their service ends. Thanks to this year’s Clay Shoot, participants helped raise an impressive $102,000 to support AMF’s life-saving efforts, which help connect veterans in crisis with the critical services, support networks, and resources they desperately need.
One of the most moving and memorable moments of the day was the heartfelt tribute to U.S. Marine Corporal Kyle W. Powell, a courageous hero who served with honor in Iraq. Attendees signed a beautifully hand-crafted wooden American flag, which was then presented to his mother, Nancy Powell—a deeply emotional and symbolic gesture honoring his life, legacy, and ultimate sacrifice.
“This year, we were deeply inspired by our returning donors and participants who came together with one mission—to stand beside our veterans, shared Elijah Larson of Mortenson’s Utah team. “Through their generosity, we raised more than we imagined in support of our country’s military families and to honor the challenges our heroes face after returning from service.
The Gold Star Clay Shoot continues to grow as a cherished tradition of remembrance, unity, and action. We are truly grateful to all who helped make this inspiring event a resounding success.
